How It Works

A closer look at what happens between the moment you send us paperwork and the moment your driver passes the border.

What each step actually involves

01

Send your paperwork

Email customs@pcsl.uk.com with your commercial invoice, packing list, transport document, EORI number(s), vehicle registration and expected crossing time. If you're a returning customer we already have your EORI and standard route set up, so a quick reference is enough.

Tip: Time-saving tip: send paperwork at least 2 hours before your sailing so we can absorb any HMRC query without risking your slot.

02

We validate and prepare

Our customs operator checks commodity codes, valuations, parties and routing. Anything missing — an EORI that doesn't exist, a unit value that looks wrong, a description too vague for classification — is flagged back to you in writing so there's a clear audit trail. The declaration is then built on CDS.

Tip: We'll never silently proceed with a declaration that looks risky. You get a question first, a correction second, a filed entry third.

03

GMR generated

Once the declaration is accepted and the MRN is live, we build your Goods Movement Reference on GVMS, pair every declaration against your vehicle, and return the GMR to you — usually inside 15 minutes from the point where the dossier is clean.

Tip: The GMR is returned as a barcode image and a reference string so your driver can show either on arrival.

04

Truck clears the border

Driver presents the GMR at the gate, whether that's Dover, Holyhead, Harwich or the Channel Tunnel. Our operator continues watching the GVMS status right through the crossing — if anything changes, we pick it up and rework the reference without waiting for the driver to call.

Tip: On our 24/7 haulier retainer, a missed sailing or inspection hold triggers an automatic callback from our desk.
